Comic #403

New character!! If you want a quick profile of Sophia’s personality, just say the words “it’s a madhouse of non-Euclidean architecture” in the cheeriest voice you can manage. That’ll pretty much do it.

      1. Well, the Tinkerer is smart, and the Mechanic is sort-of cheery, and is apparently chatty and we don’t know if she’s smart. Sounds to me like we’ve got a Maxx-Cyril situation going on.

      2. Yeah. I’d like to see you design a wheel of fire that isn’t hooked on to anything, and completely invincible. As well as an invincible super chain-ball. She’s definitely smart, she just put her wits into physics and science instead of grammar, math, and such. She also seems to be the happy one. HAPPY ONE HAS BEEN INTRODUCED!

      3. Still think it’s a Maxx-Cyril situation. Although they’d end up in love with each other, most likely.
The mechanic and tinkerer, I mean. Not Maxx and Cyril.

    1. Then again, she said that she designed it, so I doubt she’s going to be hiding anything…

  1. EmeraldNinjaIV

Raise your hand if you expected that she designed it (kind of like in game how they say she may have made the dungeon)

  2. oh goody good good… helloooooo Sophia. I thought the mechanic was gonna show up in the dungeon sooner or later but what about the old man?
    nice comic Jesse!

    1. The old man turns into the Clothier, and he, well, sells clothes so he wouldn’t make much of a difference to the story.

      1. You underestimate the power of a finely tailored suit. Woven correctly, a suit jacket can warp the space time continuum to make the wearer all but invincible. And that’s why the Men in Black wear suits.

      2. I wonder if Terrence was the “snitch” they were talking about on comic 300. And, you know, he was talking about joining them because he wanted their info/secrets. I also imagine that later on he will have his true identity shown, but actually go on their side anyway. He WAS always watching them with binoculars, so that sounds like a snitch/informer.

      3. That is possible, since he is cursed to the dungeon by Skeletron, who has not been defeated yet

      4. Well they really could’ve used him when they were in the snow biome and all they had were hats and scarves

    1. sumogypsyfish

Then there would be no point to the Dungeon, since you could escape it, DUH!
      (lol jk)

    2. Because perfection is key, if it has a weakness its like a failure to an engineer, however, a fail-safe is another topic entirely, a built in self destruct/we need to not be in this situation kinda thing, like a back entrance.

  3. So, Sophia is enthusiastically talkative. Thing is, I feel like she and Mr. Goblin Tinkerer may become good friends. Nerds, smart, etc. It works out well.

  4. I love how the tinkerer’s glasses change instead of his eyes to show emotion, it works WAY too well xD

  5. Shadow_Mantis

I now know whome to hate for all those explosive traps I have triggered throughout all my hours of Terraria.

      1. Sophia couldn’t design these, since these are just beings of pure evil, not human intelligence.

      2. Well that’s OK because she probably isn’t really human. She hasn’t eaten in years. Sure it could be a figure of speech, but I doubt it. Plus if she build the dungeon she must be pretty old. We have no way of knowing for sure how long the place has been there, but it certainly seems like the naiads have lived there for a pretty long time.

She’s likely not a Naiad because of how she call them “the Naiads” my guess is a djinn or a dryad who hates trees.

  6. Shadow_Mantis

I find it bit odd that he didn’t capitalize “goblin” or “human” but capitalizes Naiad and Dryad.

    1. Genius idea for the story. The merchant and the demolitionist are playing another game, then the goblins show up like,”Is this the place we’re supposed to destroy?” and the demo is like YES!! I finally won! The goblins are like ok, lets destroy this place. Then the merchant grabs out a coin gun(his obvious weapon) and shoots smurg in the face and all the goblins are like, every goblin for themself! and they run away.

  7. Proto Persona

The mechanic reminds me of Kaylee from Firefly. Though with less sex on her mind. Well, so far anyways.

  8. Oohoohoo, I like her name! And her cheeriness. =] The shading around her eyes looks weird, but her smile on page 8 is cute.

  9. How did she get trapped in there so easily if she designed the whole place?
    Oh right… The ropes…

      1. she says things like “do you like what ive done with the place?” and i think theres one where she complains about leaving early.

    1. IT SHOULD TOTALLY BE A GAG IN THE COMIC. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE JESSE SHOWS THE TINKERER AND SOPHIA TALKING RANDOMLY JUST LIKE MAPLE AND POA, EXCEPT MORE NERDISH.

  10. I think I know why she is so chearful, she just fell in love with the goblin tinkerer. *Remembering the quotes she says in game*

  11. Sounds like somebody had their mind slowly whittled away from years of solitude.

Also, I am already shipping them. I feel like there’s something wrong with me.

  12. Here she is: the airhead.

And since she said they forgotten about her the tech specialist could be somebody else?

  13. I now see why u put “I can not imagine anyzing worse zen finding out vat zat insane Naiad is meainingk to do to me.”
    The mechanic is worse.
But dont they like each other in the game?

  14. Came on thinking i was gonna be first….
On topic:oooh the mechanic is here

  15. Haven’t eaten by YEARS?
then why she isn’t dead yet? and don’t give me the “NPC Respawns” theory; they respawn at the spawn point, AKA Maxx’s city.

  16. Well, the mechanic’s personality is certainly… morbid. Locked away for years for God knows how long, likely being forced to make creations by her captors had turned her into this… I’m betting she made the Destroyer, too, and possibly the other mech bosses. Would love to have seen her before her capture.

    1. ‘Locked away for years for God knows how long’ Good job me -.- last time I make a comment at half past midnight

      1. Shadow_Mantis

I don’t see what you corrected there… unless it’s the removal of the thing this –> , <— thing. Apostrophe? Comma! It's a comma!

      2. No, the problem that he pointed out was that he wrote “locked away for years” and then he also said “for God knows how long” each statement representing an extended period of time that is uncountable.

      3. *Clap Clap Fap Clap* Exactly what I assumed as well, I was waiting til’ someone brought it up

  17. I bet once they get the Muramasa June will come back. BTW, listening to GlitchXCity remixes and rereading the comics.

  18. Maybe the old man is the (unlucky) pizza man?
Or maybe Xane will get so angry that it is a clothier who knocks on the uhhmmm… door and not the pizza man and… the rest you know.

    1. A random spasm

I have noticed before that a lot of awkward moments in webcomics occur from horrible timing of a pizza delivery.

  19. I like how mechanic is a totally crazy talkative weirdo. That’s how I always imagined and liked her 😀
