Comic #540: Self-Reflection

Wait a minute… that couldn’t be… could it?

I like how this comic turned out. I’ve always felt that The Legend of Maxx tends to follow an Achewood or 8-Bit Theater style of humor, where comics are a collection of smaller jokes rather than just a setup for a punchline. Of course, if you can throw a good punchline into the mix, then all the better.

I want flower back, but at least we get to see whats happening with them! 🙂

  1. Goddarn it Xane. Turns out, you were behind Ina and the rest’s death.

For making Cyril indirectly (and directly) suffer so much, you deserve to burn in the 10th layer (aka goblintown) for this!!!

    1. so, killed hannah, killed him, killed most of the dryad, nearly killed maxx, kicked aley, locked them all up *maxx and his crew* AND, the only thing he paid for, was getting hit by a ton of dirt, drilling him into the ground.

jesse, you have created quite the op character. if only he wasn’t evil, the wold would be saved in a few hours. BUT WHERES THE FUN IN THAT! XD

  2. Oh my. It all adds up…
In comic 366, when the viking captain was backstory narrating (as all captains do), this was one of his final dialogues:
[Sailor]: Small ship off the starboard bow!..
[Captain]: Sounds like a winner to me!…Let’s see if we can beat our best time!
Of course, when compared to the Hellboat, which was similar in size to the viking’s ship, the boat most likely is Xane’s junk (barge, tugboat, skiff???). This is further supported by the captains last words in the panel: “The only thing the Naiad do better than sail is fight.” Hence, it was most likely that Xane was the culprit in the murder. STILL NOT CONVINCED?! Look at the frames where Xane is bloody. You can see a sail that has a slope of 45 degrees and a platform underneath. Heading back to comic 366, look at the third panel. near the middle of the boat towards the front…we see a sail with a slope of -45 degrees and a platform underneath. The ship’s railing is also at the same level as the…

    1. bloody ship’s railing. The viking boat is just flipped in this comic! AND SO, BY THESE FACTS, AND THE POWER OF INFERENCING, XANE KILLED INA. BUT HEY. THAT’S JUST A THEORY. A TLOM THEORY. AAAAANNNND CUT.

      1. Or y’know, inferencing and allusions and that makes it pretty obvious so this comment was pretty much pointless.

BUT HEY, THAT’S JUST A TH—

    1. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Same question. The world will never know.

    2. A Tad Crimson

He prob didn’t just stab her, he prob cut her open, sliced off limbs, cut a bunch, ripped thing out of her, etc etc etc. I could go on but I bet there are people who are just getting sick reading this lol

      1. Jeff the Guide

You mean made her innards became outtards?
Don’t know why but saying that makes it feel like some sort of mashed up robot that wears a mask is watching me

    3. Whenever there’s off screen gore, artists tend to exaggerate the amount of blood that sprayed everywhere. Either that or he spun his swords like a lawnmower into her gut.

  3. ItsYaBoiCyber

Ok, that was hilarious. I fell out of my chair laughing at the end.
Keep up the good work Jesse!

    1. A Tad Crimson

Why would anybody but you know it? It even says it doesn’t show it to anybody…

    1. A Tad Crimson

Nope you DID miss something! He did say, using June to break the fourth wall, that he will tell us LATER. That’s all

    1. A Tad Crimson

That is a saying, it might be in “Calvin and Hobs” and it might’ve been intended to be a reference to it but that is still just a common saying.

  4. Thaumic Writer

You know, the last comic kinda reminded me of Don’t Starve Shipwrecked. I wonder how everyone would survive there.

  5. One And Only TinkerCat

I mean we already knew that the vikings were killed by Xane, they mentioned that. But in panel 7… where is Sophia looking?

  6. Wait, who is that wearing the shadow armour? Jesse specifically used the female armour sprite, which makes me think it’s someone specific and not just some grunt.
Am I forgetting someone? It’s been a while since we last saw Xane’s gang.

  7. A Tad Crimson

Yay I’ve been able to keep a similar bright green icon for a couple comments now! YAY

So… who thinkz that next comic should be they either ecape and leave Xane or aley bweenz him. Or he snaps and killz everyone with hiz skilz. Dats cool

  9. y’know
the more he speaks, the more i hope his dialogue and intentions are genuine
    because he is just
    (positive grunting)

  10. also, i’ve been meaning to ask:
is that a beard or some sort of scarf that he has?
    does he have like
    long hair?
the sprites don’t really show that all too clearly and that bums me out

what HTML command did you just use to cause text boldening
      [redacted]
      fear effect

This is my second account on a different device.

Also, I’m not that surprised that xane was on the ship that sunk the Viking ship

  12. The magical peanut flying

where did the nuclear explosion pyramid go!? Where’s Maxx!? Where’s The Chisler!? Am I the only one who wants to know what happened to Jonas and why they were separated!?
