-Skeletron and his dungeonfolk (Or a ninja? The Muramasa is a toughie)
-Wall of Flesh (possibly, definitely led to by Cyril bumbling with his voodoo doll while Maxx collects Hellstone)
-Goblin raid (I’ll kill you until you die if you don’t incorporate that)

he still has enough demonite and shadow scales to make some shadow armor. probably a chestplate and greaves?
Beating Skelly with iron and a light’s bane (+musket) is EASY. In fact, that is the gear that signals me to kill him.
one time i beat him with a lethergic blowpipe, all that matters is you have an arena, and in this case, ammo! (which i had a ton of! =D)

Redigit has mentioned a Legend of Maxx Reference indeed. I REALLY hope that means your guide will randomly accidently start to call you Maxx
