Comic #500: Setting Sail

Three years, nine months, and eleven days ago, I posted the very first “Terraria Sprite Comic” strip on the TOnline forums. Five months later, legendofmaxx.com was born, and Maxx’s adventure began for real. We’ve all been through a lot since then, and the comic has grown from a silly little pass-time to something rather remarkable. I don’t claim to create the greatest, deepest, or most masterfully made comics on the Internet, but I do feel rather proud to say that I’ve made 500 of them. As always, I couldn’t have done it without your support– from the fans who found the site just yesterday to ones who’ve been there since the very beginning. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!

This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Maxx & Co. Where will their adventure lead from here? Only time will tell.

        Y’know, along time ago, during Jesse’s lengthy period of gallivanting, I had this strange dream in which a bunch of people were dressed as fictional characters, and then gained the powers of them. There were also a few parts of the dream in which there were actual fictional characters doing there normal stuff, away from all the people dressed up. Two of them were Maxx and Cyril. They were on a small rowing boat, out in the ocean, at night. Maxx was mostly sleeping and Cyril was having to row. Every so often, Xane would attack them, and they’d be badly injured, but never killed, and recover before his next attack. I’m just saying, what you said reminded me of that. Also, clone Xylan, TOO LATE TO BE MAPLE!

        P.S: Zoom in on the boat in the last panel. The hole is still there and June, Doctor von Vimplegurger/Gus, Sophia, Aley, Hannah and Cyril are just STANDING THERE!?! (Maxx is at least jumping…

        Yes, but I still think the class of ship is hellboat, and it wouldn’t make sense to say “This is the most awesome June the Destroyer I have EVER SEEN. (You normally won’t see multiple hellboats with the same name)

    U say it was us who supported you but do u realize, of all the people whove read and IMMENSELY loved your comic, you have fought back against the deadliest of all things and now you are 500 comic stronger because of it. You stood up to the one thing that plagued the days of waiting for the next terraria update. If your reading this and dont know what the mighty warrior Jesse battles against with every comic….. let me tell you tis boredom that he has fought

    Congrats too 500 comics! Somehow you manage to mix humor, stupidity, love (for a few comics anyway), original pixel art, and general quality into one comic strip. Here’s to another 500!

    Great job! I’m 100% honest when I say that this is the best online comic I’ve ever read or heard of! I can’t believe there’s now 500 comics, and more to come! Keep up the good work! (Too many exclamation points, but that’s how I feel about it!)

    If I had to say one bad thing about this amazing series of comics, it would be that you should add more contrast to the sprites you create. Also, darker outlines. But other then that “WOOO 500 AMAZING LEGEND OF MAXX COMICS!” *OONTZ OONTZ OONTZ!*

    What an amazing 500th comic! Naiad might be amazing sailors with powerful water magic, but one look at this thing and they’d be soiling their pretentious black cloaks.

    Big things can happen from the least unexpected sources. Starting with a simple Sprite comic and ending up with this… Is truly amazing. You earned a big congratulations for that, Jesse. Keep up the good work, I’m sure you’ll reach 2000 comics!

    And idk why, but you kinda remember me of Jesse from MCSM…

    I love it! The ice cream in panel 6 looks tasty! I love Aley’s poor hull repair and nervous laughter. The party switch was very funny (I want one!). The panels that showed the engines and guns firing added a palpable sense of motion! And the final panel is majestic. At that speed, I don’t think there’s enough time for anything to go wrong before they get to the eastern continent!

    Amazing work, Jesse! This comic has truly turned into something special. Thank you for making it! Good luck on the next X00 comics!

    Wait a minute… a non-number title? On a normal comic? I think that’s a first. (Normal comic doesn’t count Halloween specials, adverts, etc.) Is this going to be a regular think, or just for major milestones?

        Well, I’ll be honest: I do have millions of views over the years, but the amount of money I make is basically nothing. It’s enough to cover the site with a little left over every month.

    On the comic: Out of all the things Maxx has created—the Hammush, the Heart-Poon, even Skeledeath—June the Destroyer is the best and most beautiful(ly horrifying).

    Congratulations Jesse! I can’t say that I’ve kept up with a lot of webcomics, but this one is definitely one of the best I’ve read! I can’t wait to see what awaits them on the eastern continent (something tells me it won’t take long for them to get there).
