WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT
That’s right, folks: comic 600 is OUT, it’s HAND-DRAWN, and it only took me FOUR YEARS!
In which we finally close the gap that opened between Comic #510 and Comic #511. Though it does look like there are still some unanswered questions. When exactly did June’s hair change color – and Cyril’s robe, for that matter? Then again, maybe it isn’t that mysterious given Abdul’s profession.
You may not have noticed, but the art style for this comic is a little different from previous! That’s right – after spending many hours grinding my digital art skills, I finally feel they’re polished enough to put them to use. Those of you who remember the first time The Legend of Maxx went on hiatus might recall that my desire to draw comics instead of just assembling them was one of my original motivations for cancelling the comic. It feels totally bizarre and pretty awesome to finally make that dream a reality! Redesigning Maxx and co. for the new style was both great fun and incredibly daunting, and there are still some adjustments I’d like to make. Overall, however, I think it was a success!
So does this mean the comic is back to getting regular updates? Unfortunately I’m not ready to commit to anything yet. I’m still trying to find a way to balance my two passions – writing and art – in a way allows for a reasonable amount of progress in each. Ever since Mero and the City of Ghosts released, I’ve been itching to start a new novel – actually, I have started, and stopped, a couple times already. Channelling my creativity in a productive way has been a struggle for me for the past couple years, so I’m experimenting to find something that works. I wouldn’t normally share this, but I figure it’s the least I can do after such a long absence to explain what’s going on with me!
Some more news: Legend of Maxx has a new website! I mean, you could probably tell, but still. RIP in rest, old LoM site. You will be missed, but unfortunately you were broken AF and exploded the second I tried to update your PHP version. This new site might lack some of the scruffy charm of the old, but it’s also more modern, more stable, and (hopefully) more future-proof than the old site.
Some more more news: I have an author website now! Go check it out to learn about everything I’ve done that isn’t Legend of Maxx. I will also post updates, like events that I’ll be attending, to the Blog page there.
Some more more more news: Speaking of which, I will be attending Can*Con 2025 in Ottawa, Ontario from October 17th to 19th! I don’t know if any of you are Ottawans, but if you are, come on down and say hello!
Phew… I think that’s it! I promise it won’t be four years until you hear from me again. Until then, take care and be excellent to each other!
